Giving My Peace Lily a Little Second Life

Sometimes with a little creativity
we can give what we already have a beautiful new life

When I first bought this peace lily, it was in full bloom.

With its beautiful white flowers and large green leaves, it immediately became one of my favourite plants at home. I enjoyed looking at it every day, and for about a month, it had pride of place as a centrepiece.

Then, as nature would have it, the flowers slowly withered.

What remained were these big, beautiful green leaves.

The plant was still perfectly healthy, but somehow, without its flowers, it didn’t seem to stand out anymore. Normally, I would have moved it to one side and patiently hoped that one day it would bloom again.

But this time I thought: why should it have to wait for its flowers to return before it can look beautiful again?

The leaves were still lush and healthy. The plant was very much alive. It just needed a little help to shine again.

I spotted these lovely pink ginger flowers for $7 and thought their bright tropical colour would look beautiful against the peace lily’s deep green leaves.

And this is the result. 🌺🌿

I simply pushed the cut stems gently into the soil. Whether they will last longer this way — or perhaps even grow roots — I really don’t know! 😃 This is very much my little experiment, not gardening advice.

But for now, I love what it has done.

The colourful flowers brought the whole plant back to life and, once again, my peace lily has become a centrepiece that catches my eye whenever I walk past.

It also reminded me of something.

Sometimes we are too quick to put things aside when they are no longer at their best. But perhaps they don’t need replacing.

With a little imagination, we can work with what is still good, add something new, and give it another chance to shine.

My peace lily hasn’t bloomed again — but I’ve given her back a little of her glory while I wait. 🌿

And who knows? Maybe one day she’ll surprise me with flowers of her own again.
