Healthier SG After 50: Are You Making the Most of It?

It’s more than choosing a family doctor. Here’s how to use Healthier SG to support healthier ageing.

Many of us have heard of Healthier SG.
Some may have enrolled, selected a family clinic and attended the first appointment. Others may have received an invitation but never quite got around to finding out what Healthier SG actually does.
And if we’re generally healthy, it can be tempting to think:
“Do I really need this yet?”
That is perhaps where Healthier SG is most easily misunderstood.
Its purpose isn’t simply to provide another place to go when we’re sick. Healthier SG is Singapore’s national initiative to shift healthcare towards prevention — helping us stay healthier, detect potential problems earlier and manage existing conditions better.
That makes it particularly relevant as we move through our 50s and towards retirement.
So What Exactly Is Healthier SG?
Healthier SG encourages eligible residents to enrol with a participating family doctor who can get to know their health needs over time.
Instead of seeing different doctors only when something goes wrong, the idea is to build an ongoing relationship with one family clinic and have a personalised Health Plan.
Healthier SG is open to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 40 and above.
For those of us in our 50s and 60s, this can be a useful time to pay closer attention to things such as blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes risk, vaccinations, recommended screenings and physical activity.
The aim is simple:
Don’t wait until something is wrong before paying attention to your health.

Looking for the Healthier SG App?
There is no separate Healthier SG app.
Use HealthHub to access your Health Plan and much of your Healthier SG information.
HealthHub = My healthcare
Healthy 365 = Activities & HealthpointsSo if you’ve been searching for a “Healthier SG app”, start with HealthHub instead.
What Are the Benefits of Healthier SG?
So, what do you actually get after enrolling?
Depending on your eligibility, Healthier SG can give you access to several useful benefits:
✓ Fully subsidised Health Plan consultations
Your first Health Plan consultation and annual Health Plan check-ins are fully subsidised.
✓ $0 nationally recommended health screenings
Eligible enrolled Singapore Citizens can receive selected recommended screenings at their enrolled Healthier SG clinic at no charge.
✓ Subsidised nationally recommended vaccinations
Eligible Singapore Citizens can receive subsidies for recommended vaccinations at their enrolled clinic.
✓ More support for chronic conditions
Eligible CHAS, [Merdeka Generation] and [Pioneer Generation] cardholders may benefit from the Healthier SG Chronic Tier for selected chronic medications.
✓ More flexible use of MediSave for chronic care
For eligible chronic-condition treatment at your enrolled Healthier SG clinic, MediSave can be used without the usual 15% cash co-payment, subject to withdrawal limits.
✓ Healthpoints and healthier-living support
Eligible participants can earn Healthpoints and use Healthy 365 to find activities, challenges and programmes that encourage healthier habits.
The important thing is that not every benefit applies automatically to everyone. Your age, citizenship, medical needs and eligibility can affect what you receive.
We’ll look at these benefits more closely below.
1. Don’t Just Enrol — Use Your Health Plan
Enrolling is only the beginning.
After choosing your participating GP clinic or polyclinic, your family doctor works with you on a personalised Health Plan.
Your Health Plan may cover:
- health goals
- diet and physical activity
- recommended screenings
- vaccinations
- management of existing chronic conditions
Your first Health Plan consultation and subsequent annual Health Plan check-ins are fully subsidised under Healthier SG.
You can also view your Health Plan through HealthHub.
Think of it less as another medical appointment and more as a health roadmap for the years ahead.

2. Go Back for Your Annual Health Plan Check-In
This may be one of the easiest Healthier SG benefits to overlook.
After the initial consultation, you’re encouraged to check in with your enrolled doctor at least once a year.
And yes — even if you feel perfectly well.
Conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes can develop without obvious symptoms. A regular review provides an opportunity to notice changes earlier.
There is also a small incentive.
From 1 July 2026 to 31 December 2029, eligible Healthier SG enrollees can receive a one-time 1,500 Healthpoints, worth $10, after completing an in-person annual Health Plan check-in and viewing their updated Health Plan on HealthHub.
It isn’t a huge reward.
But if you’re having a useful health review anyway, you might as well collect it.
3. Check Whether You’re Due for Health Screening
This is one area I would particularly encourage those in their 50s and beyond not to overlook.
Eligible Singapore Citizens enrolled in Healthier SG can receive Healthier SG Screening at $0 at their enrolled Healthier SG clinic, subject to eligibility criteria.
Depending on your age, sex, medical history and previous screening, this may include recommended screening for areas such as:
- cardiovascular risk factors, including diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol
- colorectal cancer
- cervical cancer
Eligible breast cancer screening is also subsidised under the national screening framework, subject to the applicable criteria.
But this doesn’t mean everyone needs every test every year.
Don’t Guess — Check
Open HealthHub or ask your enrolled doctor:
“Which screenings am I currently due for?”
You may discover something you’ve been putting off — or didn’t realise you were eligible for.

4. Vaccinations Become Important Again as We Age
Vaccinations aren’t only for children or overseas travel.
Singapore’s National Adult Immunisation Schedule recommends vaccinations according to factors such as age and medical circumstances.
These can include vaccinations against illnesses such as influenza, pneumococcal disease and shingles, where applicable.
Eligible Singapore Citizens enrolled in Healthier SG receive subsidies for nationally recommended vaccinations at their enrolled Healthier SG clinic, subject to the prevailing eligibility requirements.
Rather than trying to remember what you need, simply ask:
“Which vaccinations am I due for at my age?”
Your Health Plan can also help you keep track.

5. Have a Chronic Condition? Understand Your Subsidies
Healthier SG can become particularly useful for people managing conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol.
Under the Healthier SG Chronic Tier, eligible CHAS, Merdeka Generation and Pioneer Generation cardholders with higher chronic medication needs can receive enhanced subsidies on selected common chronic medications at their enrolled Healthier SG GP clinic.

The aim is to make selected chronic medication prices at participating GP clinics more comparable with those at polyclinics.
However, the Healthier SG Chronic Tier isn’t automatically the better choice for everybody.
Depending on your medication needs and bill, the existing CHAS Chronic Tier may sometimes be more suitable.
So instead of trying to work out all the subsidy rules yourself, ask your enrolled clinic:
“Which subsidy tier works better for my medication needs?”
6. MediSave Can Help With Chronic-Care Bills
Another benefit worth understanding is how MediSave can be used.
Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents receiving treatment for eligible chronic conditions under the Chronic Disease Management Programme at their enrolled Healthier SG provider can use MediSave for eligible bills without the usual 15% cash co-payment, subject to prevailing withdrawal limits.
In 2026, the annual MediSave500/700 limits are:
Up to $500 a year for eligible outpatient treatment generally.
Up to $700 a year for patients with complex chronic conditions.
From 1 January 2027, these limits are scheduled to increase to $700 and $1,000 respectively, and the scheme will be renamed the MediSave Chronic and Preventive Care scheme.
Knowing what can be paid from MediSave — and what still needs to come from your own pocket — becomes increasingly useful as we plan for retirement.

Healthier SG can help with preventive care, screenings, vaccinations and chronic-condition management.
But it is still only one part of our healthcare planning for retirement.
MediShield Life, MediSave, insurance, outpatient expenses and possible long-term care also need to be considered.

7. Don’t Forget Healthy 365 and Your Healthpoints
This is where the two apps can easily get mixed up.
Your Health Plan and healthcare information are accessed through HealthHub.
Healthy 365, on the other hand, focuses more on healthy living.
Depending on available programmes and your eligibility, you can use Healthy 365 to:
- track physical activity
- join health challenges
- discover exercise and wellness programmes
- earn Healthpoints
- view and redeem eligible rewards
Eligible participants can also receive $20 worth of Healthpoints after completing their first Health Plan consultation.
The rewards shouldn’t be the main reason we exercise or look after ourselves.
But if we’re already walking and making healthier choices, there’s nothing wrong with getting a little something back.
8. A New Health Plan Feature for Those Aged 40–64
Healthier SG is continuing to evolve.
One new initiative in 2026 is Health Plan AI (Beta).
From 27 July 2026 to 27 January 2027, eligible Healthier SG enrollees aged 40 to 64, with no chronic conditions and an existing Health Plan, can access the beta feature through HealthHub.
It can suggest personalised exercise options based on the exercise goals in your Health Plan.
It doesn’t replace your doctor.
Instead, it may help turn:
“I really should exercise more.”
into a more practical idea of what to do next.
If you fall within the eligible group, it may be worth exploring.
“But I’m Healthy. Do I Really Need Healthier SG?”
Perhaps this is the most important question in this article.
Imagine you’re 52.
You feel fine. You don’t take regular medication. You rarely see a doctor.
Why bother?
Because this is precisely when preventive healthcare can be valuable.
You might discover that you’re overdue for colorectal cancer screening.
Your blood pressure may have gradually increased without you noticing.
Perhaps there’s a vaccination you should consider.
Or your doctor may simply encourage you to become a little more active.
None of these sounds dramatic.
And that’s exactly the point.
Healthier SG isn’t necessarily about finding something wrong with us.
It’s about giving ourselves a better chance of staying well before something goes wrong.
So, Are You Making the Most of Healthier SG?
You don’t need to become an expert in every healthcare scheme.
Start with a few simple questions:
Have I enrolled?
Do I know what’s in my Health Plan?
When was my last annual check-in?
Am I due for any screening or vaccination?
If I have a chronic condition, am I using the subsidies and MediSave available to me?
And if you’ve been wondering where the Healthier SG app went:
Remember — start with HealthHub.
The best time to pay attention to our health isn’t only when something goes wrong.
It’s while we’re still feeling well.
Information is based on Healthier SG, Ministry of Health and HealthHub information available as at August 2026. Healthcare schemes, subsidies and eligibility criteria may change. Please check official sources or your healthcare provider for the latest information and your individual eligibility.
